New Yorker Gary Port: A Profile In Americanism

By | November 5, 2014

Law, Politics and the Military

You typically get to know someone very well through business and networking which is how I met Gary Port, a matrimonial attorney and partner in the New York law firm Port and Sava.

But for the most part there is usually going to be more to a person than just business and, in the case of Gary, I wanted to give a shoutout to recognize what he has accomplished and has tried to accomplish that in my mind truly makes him a great American.

Gary has had the desire to serve his neighbors through political office and, while many simply speak of what they would do if elected, he went out and actually tried to get there!

Long Island Politics

Yesterday in the mid-term elections Americans across the nation had the opportunity and privilege to exercise their right to vote.

Gary, who was running for the New York State Assembly in the 19th District against a Republican incumbent who is extremely well connected politically, faced an uphill battle.

Going into the process knowing that his candidacy would be difficult, and yet doing it anyway because of his belief that he had the ideas and a vision that would benefit not only his constituency but also the other citizens of New York State, is extremely admirable and an attribute that is the mark of someone who I would want to work with.

Military Service

Adding to the respect that I have for Gary is the fact that he had served in the US Army and then in the US Army Reserve, recently retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Voluntarily serving in the military as well as attempting to serve politically are both the marks of a great American and I wanted to take the time to recognize it here!
