Gambling is big business and means that big revenues would flow into the coffers of whatever state welcomes it inside its borders!

Currently casino gambling is available in the majority of states with online casino-style gambling still available in only a few.

What is it that’s holding other states back from allowing brick and mortar casinos, operations that if history is any guide would result in a substantial new revenue stream? Is it morality, voter objection, the law or maybe some combination of the three?

New York State currently allows legal gambling in a variety of forms including the lottery, pari-mutual wagering on horse racing as well as slots-only casinos in some of the aging and out-of-favor racetracks including Aqueduct (Resorts World Casino which is a Genting property), Yonkers and Monticello.

So why not privately-owned full-service casinos that offer table games?

Well as luck would have it they now will be as voters in November, 2013 approved legislation that will allow up to seven privately owned casinos to operate around the State with the initial four to be located in the Albany area, Catskills and Southern Tier.

The proviso is that local residents have demonstrated support for the project.

Tuxedo, New York on the gambling radar!

Although not an area of New York Sate that would necessarily fit the description of a depressed community, Malaysian gambling company The Genting Group is going to be making its pitch for a casino to be built in Tuxedo, New York to the Town Board there tonight.

The plan is that it would replace the Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center that is adjacent to Sterling Forest.

Part of the selling job by Genting will include the creation of 2,000 jobs, expansion of the tax base, funds flowing in to Orange County and construction of a new interchange off of the New York State Thruway.

Results of the meeting will be provided as soon as they become available.
